If you’re looking for a high end boutique experience but don’t want to break your college budget, head down to Dress For The Image Boutique on 20th and Chestnut! Not only will you find hand picked clothing and accessories not seen anywhere else, but you will see a true reflection of hard work and passion for fashion.
DFTI Boutique’s owner, Ashley Taylor, is a prime example of the motto: work hard, play hard. In addition to studying fashion merchandising in college, Ashley has worked almost every aspect in the industry: retail sales, retail management, visual merchandising, inventory management and buying. When asked what her key to success is, she answers, “Experience is everything.” By dabbling in almost every area, she was able to learn exactly how the industry works. Through her hard work and experience, Ashley was able to open her own boutique before the age of 30 right outside of Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia.
The inspiration for opening her own boutique stemmed from the desire to fix a flaw in the Philadelphia fashion scene. She has seen people wearing the same mass-produced outfits that lacked individuality. She often heard of people who wanted to buy unique pieces that no one else had but they couldn’t afford to break the bank trying. Ashley’s solution was to open DFTI Boutique, which receives only six of each handpicked style from Los Angeles vendors, all retailing under $100.
What does DFTI stand for? Dress for the Image… something Ashley Taylor has been doing since high school. Growing up in a farming community where fashion did not exist, Ashley was the first person to walk the halls of high school wearing heels. Everyone would always ask her, “Ashley, why do you dress that way?” and she would say, “I’m dressing for the image I want to be perceived.” And that was how DFTI was born. Not only is DFTI an amazing boutique, but it is a life motto of Philadelphia’s fashionistas and a clear representation of Ashley Taylor’s passion for fashion.
Aside from bringing her 4 lb yorkie, Mischa (aka, Big Misch) to work with her everyday, what Ashley loves most about being a business owner is the accomplishment itself. Setting out to do something and achieving that goal has been the most rewarding feeling for Ashley.
