Forbes recently released their second annual ranking of ‘Top Self-Made Women.” This is a ranking of 60 of America’s wealthiest and self-made women today. These women are an inspiration to all. They have defeated the odds in a “Man’s World” but most importantly they did so on their own terms. They are trailblazers. And as a young college student with big aspirations, these women are the one’s to look up to: these are the women to listen to and to follow. Learn from them and when the time comes, do not follow the path – go where there is no path and leave your own trail.

It will be a tough road, but below are four quotes from some of the richest self-made women for when the going gets tough, including one from my fave Nasty Gal’s Sophia Amoruso!

“Success is failure turned inside out. If you’re afraid to fail, you’ll never succeed.”

                      Dottie Herman

“Buckle up, and know that it’s going to be a tremendous amount of work, but embrace it.”

Tory Burch

“You are going to get through all the hardships and pain, but they are necessary to make you stronger and wiser.”

Lynda Weinman

And my favorite…

“You don’t find yourself in your peaks, but in your valleys.”

Sophia Amoruso

  1. I recommend reading Sophia Amorusos book, #Girlboss if you haven’t. Its a great read about her road to nasty gal fame from dropping out of high school to dumpster diving to entering this list of Americas richest self made women.

    • Yes, I have read her book, and absolutely loved every one bit of it! Now I use it as a coffee table book and whenever I need inspiration I pick it up. Throughout the book she has amazing, memorable and inspiration quotes for anyone who’s anyone can read, learn, absorb and become ‘self-made’ on their own terms.

  2. Samantha,
I really enjoyed reading this article. It was so inspiring and interesting. I definitely aspire to be like some of these women and I want to check out Sophia Amorusos’s book!
