Polka Dots and Plaids

By: Alphonso McClendon

The 19,000 square foot Target at 1128 Chestnut Street in Center City is featuring fast fashion for fall including polka dots and bold, vibrant flannel plaids. Although limited to primarily athleisure apparel, urban dwellers can pop into the location and grab a top or bottom for accent before hitting the local restaurants on a Friday night. The polka dot blouse with front placket and shoulder yoke black piping will cost you $24.99. It can be paired with skinny jeans for evening and a pencil or flared skirt for work wear. The shirt is a nod to the 1967 Yves Saint Laurent Le Smoking Tuxedo ensemble, ushering in women’s authority in the work place and the prevalence of trousers.

Dotted to Perfection

If the polka dots are too dressy, you can try a flannel plaid that is perfect for a weekend getaway to the country side. It references grunge and the Seattle scene of Kurt Cobain from the 1990s. What is old is new again!
