Last week celebs and fashion lovers gathered on the red carpet once again for the annual Met Gala in NYC. This year’s theme honored Rei Kawakubo, an avant-garde designer for Comme des Garçons. Stars were decked out in daring attire that ranged from sculptural to scarce.
Many attendees rocked traditional red-carpet looks as a more subtle approach to the night’s theme with striking cut-outs, while others chose a more daring approach donning avant-garde creations. Kendall Jenner and two of her sisters stunned in sleek barely-there dresses. Rihanna paid direct homage to Kawakubo in an off-the-runway Commes look. Helen Lasichanh wore a red cocoon dress with no arms, while making her red carpet debut after giving birth to triplets with husband Pharrell Williams. Event chair and performer Katy Perry was hard to miss draped in a red tulle ensemble featuring a veil and headpiece by John Galliano.
Could one of our fashion design graduates be a future Met Gala honoree? Come see their talent for yourself at this year’s fashion show, June 10 at Urban Outfitters Headquarters.
