Missoni has decided to become the latest Italian brand to combine its seasonal men’s and women’s shows. They will host their first coed show for their spring 2018 collections on September 23rd, which also marks the 20th anniversary of Angela Missoni’s creative direction. This decision comes following the direction of many of its peers, such as Damir Doma and Diesel Black Gold, who will hold their coed spring shows at Milan Men’s Fashion Week in June.
The increasing popularity of these coed shows illustrates the industry’s openness to change. Designers are constantly looking for new ways to communicate their ideas and the coed trend reinforces the correlation between the two lines. While enabling brands with a better way to present their vision, it is also financially sound, allowing them to cut from four to two shows a year. This financial benefit is even more relevant for smaller brands for which it is nearly impossible to host men’s and women’s shows back-to-back.
